Battle for Techno Music! Umek & [1605] have already enlisted

A bitter battle will take place on the techno grounds of this year's DJ Mag Top 100 DJs polls

Every summer electronic music fans around the world converge around DJ Mag Top100 DJs polls. Supporting their favourite artist always results in supporting their favourite genre. This year Umek and [1605] tribe step into fierce battle for techno music.

The reason of Umek's call-to-arms for supporting techno is that it is the origin of almost all electronic music genres known today. Nowadays techno also went digital and there are a lot of talented producers and techno DJs out there. However it's still interpreted as an underground genre, a kind of guerilla fighter and the »bastard« of electronic music.

The impact techno made on the electronic scene as we know it today is massive. So in Umek's opinion it's now our turn to honor the legacy of techno by casting our vote for techno artists.

1. The name was inspired by Alvin Toffler's book The Third Wave
2. Juan Atkins, Kevin Saunderson, Derrick May and Eddie Fowlkes are recognized as the founders of Detroit techno
3. Ford Motors used to incorporate techno into their commercials, because they noted techno was created partly by the pounding clangor of its auto factories
4. A very good documentary, explaining history of techno is Hi-tech Soul
5. Some DJs nowadays use laptops instead of players to play music. Rolling on laptops is sometimes referred also as laptronica.
